Time to Celebrate a Beginning and an End.

We're beginning our season wrap up and saying goodbye to summer friends as our staff members begin to scatter to the corners of the globe.  Each year we host an end of season hurrah to celebrate our accomplishments and ability to survive the day to day chaos and and amazingness of being a guide in Alaska.  This year we chose to also celebrate one of our owns journey into motherhood.  How best to do it but with an 'Inappropriate Parent' party!

Evening Returns to Alaskan Waters

Evening returns to Alaskan waters.  A full moon setting behind a peak above the ocean with five glaciers in sight gives one a feeling of harmony.

Mid-Season Relief

Every year John and Kat, the owners of Sunny Cove, throw a bit of a party to get everyone together.  This years party featured an Alaskan favorite, Alaska Blaskapelle, a polka band comprised of folks from all over the place.  Lot's of good friends and good times...

Blue Thunder

Aialik Glacier
It would be impossible to pick a favorite experience or moment of my time up here, but something that would be in my top 5 would surely be the sights and sounds of being up close and personal with a tidewater glacier. Glaciers occur when years of snowfall compact together to form extremely thick ice. Because the density is so great, the ice absorbs every color on the spectrum except blue which is why glacier ice has a majestic blue coloration.

Harold & Maude

People have been chatting about them on Trip Advisor but here I give you bonafied proof of their existence. Harold and Maude, two semi-resident Stellar Sea Lions that show up around Fox Island, have become quite the attraction. Here's video of them swimming under our kayaks.

What Do Our Guides Do on a Day Off?

Ice as far as thee can see on the Harding Icefield
We had a lovely weather system move in last night that had us all waking up to wind, rain, and rough seas. Not a good day for kayaking so unfortunately we had to postpone our trips for the day. Sad faces all around for our staff of sea kayak guides who couldn't get out and sea kayak. But that begs the question: What do our guides do on their days off?

Chum, Chum, Chum!!

Salmon are at Tonsina Creek and waiting to be paddled with!

The Mummy 4: Rise of the Sea Kayak Guides

Superhero pose with Brendan Fraser
Fox Island is known for its surrounding wildlife, but we recently had our first celebrity sighting. After guiding two trips under the warm sun, Chelsea and I decided to jump off the Fox Island boat dock.
